Description/
This sketch and Chen's oil painting Early Autumn (1942) have great similarities in their composition, architectural detail, and arrangement of trees. The sketch is most likely a draft of the latter painting. At that time, the artist was living at the intersection of Chiayi's Lanjing St. and Guohua St. This sketch represents the view of the Temple of Wenling Matsu from the balcony of Chen’s home.
